Congratulations to Carlene Shackelford, the first to identify Tom Fallon Tom Fallon was raised in Alabama. After finishing school, he decided to come to Hazard because of a brother who was employed here by the L. & N. His brother spoke so highly of the future of the area that Tom decided to try his own luck in Perry County. He came to Hazard in 1929, his first job was as Clerk for the Blue Diamond Coal Company at Blue Diamond. He worked there until the Spring of 1932. At that time, he went into business for himself operating a Service Station on East Main Street in Hazard. In 1934 he switched to the trucking business, concentrating on the hauling of staves and lumber. In the fall of 1937 he went back to the original location of his first business and opened a garage. Fallon's Garage operated solely as that until 1940, when Mr. Fallon took on the Studebaker line, but finally give it up in 1945. That year, he took on the DeSota and Plymouth automotive line. The first Fallon's Garage started in a rented tin building, but eventually Tom bought the property and began to develop it. The tin building was raised and a brick structure was erected. He bought a dwelling house adjoining the property and tore it down to make room for more cars. Fallon's Garage closed in the 1970s. The dealership was purchased by Haynes Chrysler, which moved into Fallon's old building on East Main Street. Tim Short Auto moved into structure in recent years. The old building is now vacant. |
